Asheville School Students Finish Fifth in Recent Hunter Pace Competition

Lacy Westle '21 and Susannah Birch '21 recently competed in the Windridge Farms Hunter Pace in Mooresboro, North Carolina. The two students, new to the equestrian program at Asheville School, finished in fifth place against 16 teams in the October 1 trail ride.

In Hunter Pace competitions, teams ride a trail while trying to come as close as possible to an "ideal" ride-time. That time is set by a non-competitive rider or team before the event and is not disclosed to participants. The team that finishes the trail closest to the predetermined ideal time wins.

The ideal time set for the Windridge Farms Hunter Pace was two hours, 30 minutes and six seconds. Westle and Birch's team came in just 10 minutes off of that time, finishing the trail with a time of two hours, 40 minutes and 10 seconds.

Westle and Birch both rode with Asheville School horses during the competition. Westle competed with 'Lola' and Birch with 'Pumpkin.' You can see full results from the Hunter Pace competition here.
