Asheville School Sophomore Rachel Kuehn is a serious golfer.
This January, the Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) and the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) named Kuehn to the 2016 North Carolina All-State Golf Team. She was named to the girls' first team along with nine other players from across North Carolina.
"We congratulate Rachel on this outstanding achievement and honor," said Asheville School Athletic Director Carl Boland.
This accomplishment comes at the end of a stellar season. In 2016, Kuehn was named as co-player of the year and all-WNC in golf, placed second at the American Junior Golf Association All-Star Invitational, won the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association individual golf tournament for Asheville School, and made the decision to commit to Wake Forest's golf program.
But golf is not Kuehn's only talent. When she is not practicing on the green, she might be working on her backhand.
Kuehn is an excellent tennis player, and she has excelled on the courts for the Blues.
This year she was recognized as All-CAA, All-WNC, and she was named as CAA player of the year.
"Rachel is a model student-athlete for Asheville School who exudes a unique combination of sportsmanship, determination, and competitiveness in all that she does," Boland said. "In addition to her accolades on the tennis court and golf course, she achieves at a high level in the classroom and is a great kid to be around."The All-State Golf Team athletes will be recognized in a ceremony on January 28, 2017 at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC.
