Frank was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan in a family that valued education. His mother was a nurse educator and his father held a doctoral degree in electrical engineering, and they encouraged him and his three siblings to pursue advanced degrees. Frank was a high school swimmer and water polo player. At the University of Michigan he played water polo and was team captain during his senior year. Frank teaches AP Biology, Biology and Chemistry, and Anatomy at Asheville School. He has been the Head Swim Coach at Asheville School for 20 years, and has been named the Western North Carolina Coach of the Year three times. Frank is an outdoor enthusiast and avid swimmer. He has completed four long distance swims in Lake Fontanna (22 miles), Tampa Bay (24 miles), around Franklin Island (12 miles, and around Key West Island (13 miles). Both of his children, Joey (Class of 2015) and Abby (Class of 2019) share his passion and are accomplished competitive swimmers.
