National Appalachian Pastel Society Exhibition in Crawford Art Gallery
The Appalachian Pastel Society’s 2012 National Pastel Exhibition is hanging in The John M. Crawford, Jr. Art Gallery at Asheville School. The show will continue through December 14, 2012.
The Appalachian Pastel Society was formed in 2006 to promote an understanding and appreciation of pastel painting throughout the Appalachian Region. For more information, visit their website.
For the national exhibition, 230 paintings were submitted from 21 states. The juror, Richard McKinley, selected 74 of those for exhibition. McKinley has been a professional working artist for 38 years and has over 35 years of teaching experience, including several DVDs on pastel painting. His book “Pastel Pointers, Top Secrets for Beautiful Pastel Paintings” compiles years of his writings for the Pastel Journal Magazine. For more information about Richard McKinley, visit his website.
The exhibition opening took place on Thursday, October 18. An Awards Reception including a Gallery Walkthrough with the Juror was held Tuesday, October 30. One of the awards given that evening was the “People’s Choice Award” which was determined by Asheville School students. Come see the exhibition! Click here for more photos.
