Congratulations to the Varsity Boys’ tennis team (8-5) after they competed in the first round of the NCISAA 3A State Championships on Saturday, May 12.

The Girls’ and Boys’ track teams at Asheville School clinched the CAA Championship in dramatic fashion on their home track Wednesday, May 10 after a fantastic afternoon of competition.

Asheville School Senior Football captain Anthony Cammarata (Asheville, NC) announced this week that he plans to play football as a walk on at Elon University this fall.

The Buncombe County Track Championship meet was held at North Buncombe on a stormy Tuesday afternoon. Throughout delays and hard rain, the Blues performed well.

Asheville School’s Joey Kriegler made the Citizen-Times All-WNC Swim team as a freshman.

It was a record setting night for the Asheville School Blues Track and Field team during Friday night's Taco Bell track meet in Columbia, SC.

Three Asheville School football players signed this week to play football at the collegiate level. Running back Malik Risher and quarterback Chad Koehler will play as teammates next year at Presbyterian College, while linebacker Mike Schill has committed to play at The University of the South: Sewanee.

Junior Ryan Shiver competed in the National Heavyweight tournament in Lehigh, Pennsylvania on February 24th, and finished 11th out of 32 members.

The swimming program at Asheville School continued to shine at the state level on Tuesday, February 21 in Greensboro, NC, with boys' and girls' swimmers breaking four school records and achieving 38 personal best times in 56 total events.

Congratulations to Asheville School junior Ryan Shiver who is celebrating this week after winning the NCISAA heavyweight championship in Charlotte on Saturday, February 18. Shiver pinned Charlotte Latin’s Toby Okwara within 1 minute and 15 seconds into this afternoon’s finals to claim the state championship title. During the two-day NCISAA wrestling tournament at Charlotte Country Day, Shiver pinned all four of his opponents.

Asheville School Junior Ryan Shiver showed off his wrestling skills in Charlotte this weekend when he won the heavyweight championship at the Holy Angels Invitational wrestling tournament. During the two-day tournament which finished on Saturday, January 7 at Charlotte Cathlotic, Shiver showed why he’s the state’s top-ranked NCISAA heavyweight wrestler.

The boys' varsity basketball team at Asheville School will spend part of the December break competing in two holiday tournaments in back to back games for two days in a row.

The fall athletic convocation was held on Thursday, December 1 in Asheville School's Graham Theater.

A sea of Asheville School students, faculty members, parents, and alumni surrounded the Blues players after the game, cheering them on for playing with such heart and never giving up in Friday night's 14-10 loss to the First Assembly Eagles. The Blues claimed the runner-up trophy in Asheville School's first state title game in school history.

Down by 3 with 4 minutes left to play, Asheville School senior Malik Risher returned a SouthLake Christian kickoff for 95-yards to give the Blues a 21-17 win and the chance to play for the NCISAA Division II state championship for the first time in school history.

The Blues advance to the second round of Division II NCISAA State playoffs for the first time in school history after defeating Harrells Christian Academy 41-37 at home on Saturday, November 5.

Asheville School's cross country teams performed well in the NCISAA state meet this fall, with the boys’ cross country team placing third overall out of 22 teams.

In a game that went the distance Saturday, the Asheville School Blues dominated and held off an undefeated Christ School Greenie team to claim a 15-9 win in the historic rivalry between the two schools.

Four Asheville School fall varsity teams will compete in the state tournament, with three teams entering the first round of the NCISAA tournament tomorrow, Friday, October 21.

Out of the 160 student athletes nominated by their respective coaches, Asheville School seniors Malik Risher (Brooklyn, NY) and Anthony Cammarata (Asheville, NC) were two of the 33 football players selected from North Carolina to play in the Oasis Shriners All-Star Classic.

Asheville School students were greeted by an archway of blue and white balloons in the dining hall this week - kicking off Girls’ Sports Day, an annual celebration of Asheville School’s female athletes. First organized in 1990, Girls’ Sports Day has grown into an enthusiastic weeklong event honoring female sports teams, including all Asheville School girls participating in mountaineering and equestrian.

The Asheville Citizen-Times named Asheville School’s Randy Ashley as the All-Western North Carolina Track and Field boys’ coach of the year.

Asheville School recently named Roger Harris as the new Head Football Coach for the Blues. Harris, who served as the Blues’ assistant football coach for the past two seasons, says he hopes to continue where head coach Matt Neville left off during the 2011-12 season.

Recording more CAA All-Conference athletes than any of the past five years, Asheville School had a very successful 2010-2011. On Thursday, May 26, several student athletes were recognized for their accomplishments at the 2011 Athletic Awards Banquet.

Asheville School’s boys’ track team brought home the 3A NCISAA Runner-Up trophy on Saturday, May 21, thanks to some first place finishes by seniors, and several record-breaking performances.

Frank Kriegler didn’t have much time to rest during his spring break. The science teacher and swimming coach at Asheville School was too busy training for the biggest swimming event of his life -- a 24-mile marathon swim that covers the entire length of Tampa Bay.

Last spring, Max Hartmann broke the Asheville School long jump record when he jumped 21' 9" - and placed second at the NCISAA 3A State Championships. This year, it only took Hartmann one meet for him to break that record again…and then again.

Asheville School alumnus David Pless (class of 2009) recently made history for his Bates College Bobcats by becoming the first Bobcat to ever claim the Division III NCAA championship in shot put on Saturday, March 12.

Until she arrived at Asheville School, Katharine Lannom coached herself every time she prepared for a track meet. But with her first spring track and field season now underway at Asheville School, Lannom points to one reason why she expects to excel — her coach.

Asheville School's boys swim team placed 9th overall and the girls finished 15th at the NCISAA 3A state championship meet in Cary, NC on Monday, February 21. Almost every swimmer at the meet earned at least one season best time.

A week after scoring his 1000th career point as a Blues basketball player, Asheville School senior Alex Avery was named to the CAA All-Conference team.

"I am very proud of Alex Avery and his basketball accomplishments over his career at Asheville School. Alex's perseverance through his teams successes and failures is noteworthy," says Chapman Kern, Asheville School Athletic Director. "Alex has demonstrated the desire to compete to the best of his ability in each and every game of his career. His leadership and determination have been recognized, as he was voted Co-Captain by his teammates in both his junior and senior seasons. I am so happy for Alex to have achieved this 1000 point scoring landmark and even more proud of his recent naming to the 2011 Carolinas Athletic Association Boys' Basketball All-Conference team. Alex will be greatly missed as he moves on the play at the next level."

After winning every meet this season, the Asheville School boys' swim team won the CAA Championship in Mars Hill on Friday, February 11.

Asheville School Sophomore Maggie Lindsey may be one of the youngest players on her team, but her age didn't stop her from sinking a record number of 3-point shots for the Blues girls' varsity basketball team.

During the offseason, Asheville School Senior Will Patton was kicking for swim season to start – literally. Turns out Patton’s broken arm and extra focus on kicking helped his team finish in first place in the Buncombe County Meet on Saturday, January 15 at Asheville School.

On Saturday, November 13 on the Chuck & Tura Carter Court at Asheville School, the boys’ varsity basketball team claimed their second victory in a row over the Asheville School alumni team 66-58. The alumni team won six out of the eight previous Alumni basketball games.

Asheville School senior Sydney Coggiola (Candler, NC) was selected to represent the North Carolina Private School All-Stars in the 2010 North Carolina Field Hockey All-Star game. The game took place at Davidson College on Sunday, November 14 at 3:00 pm.

On October 22, the Girls' Cross Country team finished first and the Boys' Cross Country team finished second at the CAA Championship at USC Upstate.

Asheville School’s Varsity Field Hockey’s victory over Patton High School (2-0) on October 20 secured their spot in this year’s NCISAA state tournament.

Only six games in to the season, Asheville School senior Clayton Dawson (Charlotte, NC) scored her tenth Field Hockey goal on Saturday, September 18.

On Saturday, September 25, the Asheville School community will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Girls' Sports Day - a tradition that started in 1990 and has grown into an enthusiastic week-long event honoring female athletes at Asheville School. During Girls' Sports Day, Asheville School students, faculty members, and parents rally together to support the girls as they compete throughout the day in cross-country, junior varsity and varsity volleyball, field hockey, and tennis.

The Asheville School Blues football team was recently highlighted by the Asheville Citizen-Times in a front page Sports feature about their upcoming season. Fifth former Katie Volatile was named to the NCISAA All-State team in the 3A girls’ soccer division on Saturday, May 15, during the closing of the girls’ soccer state championship at Charlotte Latin.

Asheville School’s boys’ and girls’ track teams finished out a strong season this weekend at the NCISAA 3A State Track Championships at Cary Academy, in Cary, NC.

Asheville School's Varsity Boys' tennis team earned a #9 seed in the 3A NCISAA tennis tournament to be held in Greensboro, NC on Saturday, May 8.

Asheville School’s Girls’ Soccer team defeated Shannon Forest 2-1 on Tuesday, May 4 to earn the CAA Conference Co-Championship! The Blues tied Asheville Christian Academy for the CAA title. The girls ended CAA play with a final CAA record of 5-1-4 and an overall record of 7-2-4.

Asheville School senior and track and field co-captain Bret Fickes (Hendersonville, NC) won the 300 meter hurdles in the recent Buncombe County Track meet on Tuesday, April 20.

Freshman Dominick Cammarata struck out 15 batters in the 14-0 victory over Andrews on Friday, April 9. The Blues also defeated the WCAA Trailblazers in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, April 10, 5-3.

Asheville School’s own Frank Kriegler was recently named All-WNC Swimming coach of the year by the Asheville Citizen-Times. Kriegler led the Blues boys to an undefeated season with championships in the Buncombe County and Carolinas Athletic Association meets. Congratulations to coach Kriegler and to all Blues swimmers this season.

Asheville School's spring sports season has recently begun, but not without some big wins and impressive showings by our winter sports teams in their final competitions.

Our Asheville School Blues have given it their all this season, finishing 8-9 overall and 5-7 in the CAA this year. The team's biggest wins came at Carolina Day School (62-53), with a come-behind win in the second half, and in the East Rutherfordton Christmas Tournament, where the Blues defeated R.S. Central High (67-58), with high scoring in the game by fourth former (sophomore) Malik Risher, and fifth former (junior) Leonard Martin.

The Blues have had a very successful wrestling season this year. While wrestling some incredible teams, the Blues have fought for an impressive 14-11 record, with nine out of 13 wrestlers with over ten wins this winter.

During his last 14 years of coaching swimming at Asheville School, Frank Kriegler has certainly witnessed some winning teams. But what’s unique this year is the number of talented swimmers competing on the boys’ and girls’ swim teams.

The Asheville School Boys’ and Girls’ swim teams placed first Tuesday in a home swim meet vs. Henderson High and West Henderson High.

Though the Blues did not take back the coveted Arbogast-Fayssoux Trophy from the Christ School Greenies this year, they have played hard enough throughout their season to win a spot into the NCSIAA playoffs.

Saturday marked another successful end of the season for Asheville School's hardworking and talented cross country teams.

New fourth former, Malik Risher, has already earned a spotlight article in the Asheville Citizen-Times for his contribution to Asheville School Football’s first winning season since 2005.

The Asheville School Blues continue to win, whether it's on their temporary home field at Memorial Stadium, or on the road.

Senior goalkeeper Thomas Hunter, a 2006 graduate from Asheville School, made a career high 10 saves in Wofford's season opener against East Tennessee State on September 1.
