	Two Asheville School students tied for second place in the 23<sup>rd</sup> Annual Computer Science High School Programming Contest held at Western Carolina University on Tuesday, April 17. Senior Lawrence Waller and junior Jeff Park competed together against several teams of students from AC Reynolds and McDowell High, finishing just behind a first place AC Reynolds team, and tying for second with another team from AC Reynolds.</p>

Shiver pinned Charlotte Latin’s Toby Okwara within 1 minute and 15 seconds into this afternoon’s finals to claim the state championship title. During the two-day NCISAA wrestling tournament at Charlotte Country Day, Shiver pinned all four of his opponents.</p>

	Beginning on January 16, Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Asheville School will spend a week looking back and celebrating the Civil Rights Movement. The focus will be especially on students, looking at the Little Rock Nine, James Meredith, and the desegregation of Asheville City Schools.</p>

	A sea of Asheville School students, faculty members, parents, and alumni surrounded the Blues players after the game, cheering them on for playing with such heart and never giving up in Friday night's 14-10 loss to the First Assembly Eagles. The Blues claimed the runner-up trophy in Asheville School's first state title game in school history.</p>

<p>A week after scoring his 1000th career point as a Blues basketball player, Asheville School senior Alex Avery was named to the CAA All-Conference team. <br />

Alex's perseverance through his teams successes and failures is noteworthy," says Chapman Kern, Asheville School Athletic Director. "Alex has demonstrated the desire to compete to the best of his ability in each and every game of his career.  His leadership and determination have been recognized, as he was voted Co-Captain by his teammates in both his junior and senior seasons.  I am so happy for Alex to have achieved this 1000 point scoring landmark and even more proud of his recent naming to the 2011 Carolinas Athletic Association Boys' Basketball All-Conference team. <p>Asheville School <span>is greening its lawn care services with three propane-powered mowers, thanks in part to an alumnus and a unique propane supply program provided by Blossman Gas.</span></p>
<p>Harris Baker, an Asheville School Class of '74 alumnus and president of HBH Gas Systems of Austin, Texas, donated three new propane mowers to his alma mater. <p>Asheville School’s Girls’ Soccer team defeated Shannon Forest 2-1 on Tuesday, May 4 to earn the CAA Conference Co-Championship! The Blues tied Asheville Christian Academy for the CAA title. <p>Leslie Bradshaw, a French teacher at Asheville School since 1982, was recently named to the executive board of the North Carolina American Association of Teachers of French. Bradshaw, who was selected as the Teacher of the Year by the NC-AATF this spring, will serve as vice president for a 2-year term beginning July 2010.
