	In a downpour of rain, students and faculty members competed in the Mini Mud Run at the Woodfin YMCA on May 5.  According to the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the obstacles included a 1-mile run, followed by an army mud crawl, mud hill climb, trail run, mind teaser, hay bale hurdles, tire agility, mud pit and more. </p>

	Two Asheville School students tied for second place in the 23<sup>rd</sup> Annual Computer Science High School Programming Contest held at Western Carolina University on Tuesday, April 17. Senior Lawrence Waller and junior Jeff Park competed together against several teams of students from AC Reynolds and McDowell High, finishing just behind a first place AC Reynolds team, and tying for second with another team from AC Reynolds.</p>

Along with several other students, these freshmen are knitting premie blankets, surgery dolls, super kid capes, and hats to help clothe premature infants at Mission Children’s Hospital in Asheville.</p>

	Congratulations to Asheville School junior Ryan Shiver who is celebrating this week after winning the NCISAA heavyweight championship in Charlotte on Saturday, February 18. Shiver pinned Charlotte Latin’s Toby Okwara within 1 minute and 15 seconds into this afternoon’s finals to claim the state championship title. During the two-day NCISAA wrestling tournament at Charlotte Country Day, Shiver pinned all four of his opponents.</p>

	Based on preliminary scores from national testing (PSAT), two Asheville School seniors have advanced to the finalist round in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Seniors Patrick (P.J.) Eckerd and Lawrence Waller, both from Asheville, NC, are two of 15,000 finalists competing for National Merit Scholarships.</p>

	For the third year in a row, Asheville School students have demonstrated their impressive mathematical abilities at the Ciphering Time Trials, a national mathematics contest administered by National Assessment & Testing. In the recent 2011 competition, Asheveille School placed 25th in the nation.</p>

	Asheville School junior Jack Qualey (Hilton Head, SC) completed the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Course sponsored by the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS and IslandWood located on Bainbridge Island, Washington from December 27 - January 6. Qualey is now certified as a WFR and has the ability to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations.</p>

During the two-day tournament which finished on Saturday, January 7 at Charlotte Cathlotic, Shiver showed why he’s the state’s top-ranked NCISAA heavyweight wrestler.</p>

<p>A week after scoring his 1000th career point as a Blues basketball player, Asheville School senior Alex Avery was named to the CAA All-Conference team. <br />

"I am very proud of Alex Avery and his basketball accomplishments over his career at Asheville School.  Alex's perseverance through his teams successes and failures is noteworthy," says Chapman Kern, Asheville School Athletic Director. "Alex has demonstrated the desire to compete to the best of his ability in each and every game of his career.  His leadership and determination have been recognized, as he was voted Co-Captain by his teammates in both his junior and senior seasons.  I am so happy for Alex to have achieved this 1000 point scoring landmark and even more proud of his recent naming to the 2011 Carolinas Athletic Association Boys' Basketball All-Conference team. <p>Two Asheville School sixth formers were recently named finalists to two national scholarship competitions. Senior Amanda Anderson (Swannanoa, NC) was named a National Merit Finalist. Anderson is one of 15,000 finalists nationally. Bill Wheatle (Rockville, MD) was named a National Achievement Finalist. The selection of 800 Achievement Scholarship winners nationally is now in progress.</p>

<p>Sophomore Melinda Coker has been skiing as long as she can remember, and her skills certainly set her apart this season as she was named top female skier for the season. <p>Tonight's National Players performance of Shakespeare's <i>A Midsummer Night's Dream</i> has been cancelled due to an automobile accident.</p>
<p>The players had an accident in West Virginia yesterday and their vehicle is not able to make it to North Carolina.  Asheville School  hopes to reschedule the play with the company later this year.</p>

While at Earthshine, students were given the opportunity to hike, bike, complete a ropes course or zip line course, or simply relax and enjoy the mountain scenery at the lodge. <p>Asheville School’s Girls’ Soccer team defeated Shannon Forest 2-1 on Tuesday, May 4 to earn the CAA Conference Co-Championship! The Blues tied Asheville Christian Academy for the CAA title.
