Asheville School Athletes Named as Finalists for Five WNC Sports Awards

This year, the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club selected Asheville School athletes as finalists for five Western North Carolina Sports Awards. During WNC Sports Awards Banquet, 118 athletes from 28 regional high schools will be recognized as finalists for 22 awards and 15 scholarships.

Asheville School's Abby Kriegler 2019, Rachel Kuehn 2019, the Girls Tennis Team and the Boys Swim Team are all finalists for 2018.

Abby Kriegler has been nominated for the Carole Martin/Northwestern Mutual Division II Female Athlete award for her outstanding record in swimming. Kriegler earned two podium finishes during the 2018 NCISAA 3A State Swim Meet this February and set a new school record in the 200 Free with a time of 1:52.83.

Kuehn is a finalist for both the Carole Martin/Northwestern Mutual Division II Female Athlete award and the Apollo Flame Division II Female Athlete of the Year award for her exceptional seasons in both golf and tennis.

In addition to playing a leadership role on the Blues' most winning tennis team in school history, Kuehn had a standout year in golf. She was named the N.C. Junior Girl's Player of the Year after winning four tournaments in 2017, including the NCISAA State Championship, the Carolinas Women's Amateur, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls' tour Tournament of Champions, and the Bubba Conlee Junior.

The Blues Girls Tennis Team is a finalist for the Mills Manufacturing Division II Female Team award after their record-setting 12-1 season, which ended with their single defeat during the second round of the NCISAA 3A State Playoff.

Asheville School Boys Swimming is up for the EmergeOrtho Blue Ridge Division II Male Team award. This year the Blues earned third place of 19 teams during the 2018 NCISAA 3A State Championship Meet with swimmers scoring podium finishes in three events.

"It's an honor to have 5 finalists represent Asheville School at the annual MAAC banquet," said Asheville School Athletic Director Carl Boland. "It is really a fantastic event, and our student-athletes have earned the privilege to be considered among the very best in Western North Carolina."

The banquet will take place on May 6, 2018, at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina. Contact Athletic Director Carl Boland for information about attending the banquet with Asheville School.
