Asheville School Freshman Takes Third Place in NCISAA 3A State Wrestling Tournament

On February 16 and 17, Blues Wrestling traveled to Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, North Carolina to compete in the NCISAA 3A State Tournament. The team had a great showing, with freshman John McCurry taking third and senior Bennet Zimmerman finishing sixth in each of their respective weight classes.

During the tournament, Zimmerman wrestled in five matches over two days and came in sixth place in his 16-man bracket. McCurry made it to the semi-final round before being beaten by the eventual tournament victor. He wrestled back in the consolation bracket to earn third place in the NCISAA 3A State Tournament.

Head Coach Lecky Haller says that he is proud of the team, and especially of Zimmerman, who traveled regularly to practice with other schools and who demonstrated unwavering commitment to his teammates and the sport. "They were a fun and dedicated group of boys who learned a lot about wrestling and themselves," Haller said. "They stuck together and helped each other excel."
