Senior JP Schill Commits to Centre College

Asheville School senior JP Schill is a scholar athlete who has had a strong multisport career for the Blues, earning CAA All-Conference honors in both football and baseball during his tenure.

Schill now has the chance to take his passion for football to the next level, having committed to play for Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.

In his senior football season, Schill served as team captain and was a starter on both offense and defense. As a slot receiver, he had 675 all-purpose yards with four touchdowns, including an 85-yard kick-off return for a touchdown. As a linebacker on defense, he had 95 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, six sacks, one punt block, and a 75-yard interception for touchdown.

"On behalf of Asheville School and the Athletic Department, I congratulate JP on this opportunity to play a sport he loves at a great institution," said Athletic Director Carl Boland during a commitment ceremony for Schill on February 15.

A number of JP Schill's coaches offered him congratulations, including Head Football Coach Gus Schill, who happens to be JP Schill's father.

"I have been fortunate as a coach to have the opportunity to coach my three sons in multiple sports at Asheville School," said Gus Schill. "I strive to find the healthy balance between being an objective teacher, mentor and coach on the field, and enjoying a father's pride in their accomplishments. I am most proud of JP's tireless work ethic, selfless play, leadership and positive attitude."

JP Schill will join his brother David Schill, who graduated from Asheville School in 2016 and who is the starting free safety for Centre. JP Schill has been recruited to play as a boundary tight end on offense. "JP will be working against his older brother in practice each day," said Gus Schill. "I expect there will be many entertaining moments. I wouldn't say they ever fight, but I would characterize their relationship as sometimes having some 'brotherly-strife' on the field."

JP Schill is enthusiastic about joining Centre. Surrounded by his coaches and teammates during the commitment ceremony, he expressed his gratitude and excitement on taking this next step in his athletic career. Join us in wishing him congratulations on Twitter @AvlSchoolSports.
