Asheville School Welcomes Leigh Ruhl as Assistant Head of School for Advancement

The Asheville School community is excited to introduce Leigh W. Ruhl as the new Assistant Head of School for Advancement.

"Leigh Ruhl's accomplishments as a fundraiser are impressive. Every one of her references referred to Leigh as a dedicated, highly motivated individual of remarkable personal qualities," said Head of School Arch Montgomery.

Not only does Ruhl have strong connections to the Asheville community, her husband is an Asheville School alumnus -- John R.E. Ruhl, Jr., Class of 1980.

She joins Asheville School from the Mission Health System, where she has worked since 2010. Most recently, she served as the Director of Philanthropy at the Mission Health Department of Philanthropy. She accepts this new leadership role on the Advancement team as her predecessor, Daniel Seiden, moves on as the new Head of School at Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville, South Carolina.

Ruhl has also volunteered extensively in the Asheville community. Ruhl co-founded Women in Philanthropy and has served the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Foundation, Carolina Day School and United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County, among others.

Ruhl says she is excited to join the team.

"Asheville School is a special place where students build lifelong friendships," she said. "The combination of rigorous academics and a multitude of experiences outside of the classroom provides a healthy atmosphere in which students can excel, grow, lead, and serve. It is my absolute privilege to invest in these bright and motivated students."

Ruhl still remembers fondly her first visit to Asheville School.

"My first visit to this beautiful campus took place in the Fall of 1980. My fellow classmate at UVA, John Ruhl, Jr., Class of '80, invited me to come home with him for Christ School Weekend. I certainly didn't realize at the time that I would later become Mrs. John Ruhl, Jr. or the Assistant Head of School for Advancement! I couldn't be more excited to serve the Asheville School community by securing the resources needed to prepare our students for college and life."

Ruhl has the leadership skills and the experience to serve Asheville School well in the years to come, Montgomery said.

"She listens well, leads collaboratively, cares about her team, and is a selfless team player. Leigh knows Asheville School, and she knows our extended school family. Her day-long interview confirmed that she is an articulate, high-energy, and enthusiastic individual who will meld well into our community. Asheville School is lucky to have found Leigh."
