Six student athletes representing fall sports for the Asheville School Blues were recently honored with All-WNC recognition by the Asheville Citizen-Times. Congratulations to Rachel Kuehn, Sarah Abernethy, Declan Mettee, Titus Morrison, Uchenna Ikwuakor and Chris Hemphill!
Rachel Kuehn not only earned All-WNC honors in both girls golf and girls tennis, but she also was named Player of the Year in both sports. This year, Kuehn won her third consecutive NCISAA Division II state golf championship and earned CAA Conference Player of the Year in tennis for the third time. She was the No. 1 singles player and only lost one singles match during the season. Kuehn also earned CAA-All Conference and NCISAA 3A All-State honors for the season.
Sarah Abernethy earned All-WNC honors in girls tennis. She also earned CAA-All Conference honors and was named to the NCISAA all-state team for the second consecutive year after finishing the 2018 season with an undefeated 17-0 singles record.
Declan Mettee was named to the All-WNC Second Team for boys soccer. The sophomore, who plays forward for the Blues, also earned CAA All-Conference honors.
Titus Morrison, Uchenna Ikwuakor and Chris Hemphill all earned All-WNC Honorable Mentions for Blues football. Morrison and Ikwuakor also earned NCISAA Western Conference All-Conference honors in football, and Morrison earned an NCISAA All-State Football honorable mention. Blues football had one of the strongest seasons in recent school history, earning a ticket to the NCISAA Division III State Football Championship game.
