Girls Cross Country Finishes Third, Boys Place Fifth in State Meet; Three Runners Earn All-State Recognition

Congratulations to the girls' cross country team for earning a third-place finish in the NCISAA Division III State Championship Meet on Friday, October 26.

The boys team also had a strong showing, finishing in fifth place overall.

Both teams ran through driving rain on the course in Hendersonville, North Carolina, sometimes running in ankle-deep mud.

Head coach John Smith is proud of his team for their work throughout the season and their determination in the state meet.

"Our team had another exceptionally strong season," Smith said. "It culminated in an epic battle, where the weather was some of the worst I have ever seen for a cross country meet, and the kids persevered despite the conditions."

This year the Blues have three runners who have earned All-State honors: Claire Hill, Lia Sprouse, and Major Eason.

"I am truly proud of their efforts, and I know that the example set this year bodes well for next year's team," Smith said.

Join us in wishing Hill, Sprouse and Eason congratulations! You can see Blues sports updates on Twitter @AvlSchoolSports.
