Inaugural Rabun Gap Day Set for October 14
Inaugural Rabun Gap Day Set for October 14

Saturday, October 14, marks Asheville School's first Rabun Gap Day, during which the entire Asheville School community will travel to Rabun Gap – Nacoochee School for a full slate of athletic contests and spirit activities.

After a pep rally on Friday, nearly every Asheville School junior varsity and varsity team will take on the Rabun Gap Eagles throughout the day on Saturday. The schools will vie for a winning cup—each team that wins will earn a point for their respective school. The school with the most points at the end of the day will go home with the award.

Rabun Gap Day was devised by Asheville School Head of School Arch Montgomery and Rabun Gap Head of School Anthony Sgro, who is an Asheville School graduate from the class of 1984. The two schools have long been competitive in athletic competitions, and this annual event will give both a chance to inspire school spirit and showcase fall teams.

"This will be a great opportunity for our school to come together over multiple sports and show school spirit," said Asheville School Athletic Director Carl Boland. "I am excited that our students will have the opportunity and privilege of representing our school in the spirit of competition."

Boland stressed that Rabun Gap Day is not meant to overshadow the Christ School Game. Rather, it is a chance to build community by celebrating a wide range of teams. "We hope this is the beginning of a new tradition in Asheville School athletics," Boland said. "However, this event is not intended to replace the Christ School rivalry, something that we treasure and our students look forward to every fall. Rabun Gap Day will promote and foster pride in our school and enhance our sense of community in the spirit of competition across multiple sports."
