Born and raised within the Washington Beltway, Janet would escape the city life by camping with her family in the mountains of Virginia. After attending college in Richmond, she met her husband, Jim, a math teacher who was from the mountains of Tennessee. Together they decided to move to a mountain-top near Asheville, and the two of them have been working on building their own home for several years (the D.I.Y. way). Janet loves nature and spends her spare time either in her flower garden or in her studio, painting. She formerly taught Art in Continuing-Ed at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Her painting “Asheville School Banana” hangs in the Admissions Reception Room on 2nd Mitchell. Janet says, “you can’t make a LIVING selling your own artwork until after you’re DEAD”, so she chose a career in accounting. Appointed to Asheville School in 2002, she lives near Hot Springs with her husband and their 4 cats, Inky, Little Boy, Ginger and Punky.
