Mary Elizabeth hails from Rome, Georgia where she attended Darlington School. Mary Elizabeth is no stranger to boarding school life as she was a faculty child of two parents who also attended boarding school. After graduating from high school, Mary Elizabeth attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee where she earned a B.A. in Art History. After graduation, Mary Elizabeth returned to her alma mater to teach mathematics for three years. In 1997, she was lured back to Memphis to teach at Hutchison School, enjoy bar-b-que, and listen to great soul music!
Upon returning to the mountains of North Carolina in 2001, Mary Elizabeth worked at Asheville School teaching mathematics, working in the Learning Center, coaching cross-country and track, living in Lawrence and Anderson Halls, and completing her graduate degree from Western Carolina. After a brief retirement, Mary Elizabeth directed the Learning Center and lived in Kehaya House with her husband, two sons, pet Boxer, and a group of wonderful girls. She is currently the Assistant Head of School for Student Life and Dean of Students.
In addition to playing soccer with her sons, Mary Elizabeth also enjoys running, collecting dahlia tubers, baking, sewing, and taking long walks in the woods.
