Mr. John Smith
Director of Admission
Cross Country, Skiing, Track
B.A., Bates College 1995
Appointed in 2007
John joined the Asheville School community after spending many years chasing the good life in the mountains of Colorado and Vermont. Raised in Washington, DC and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, John grew up on the water, fishing, crabbing and enjoying the outdoors. After graduating from Middlesex School in Concord, MA (1991) where he played football, wrestled, and ran track, John matriculated to Bates College in Maine. While in college, John ran Cross Country, was on the Track team and became a member of the Rugby team. John graduated with an American History Major.
Snow and mountains led him to Steamboat Springs, CO where he coached both Cross Country and Track at the local High School and taught briefly. However, the lure of the East Coast and family brought him back to his roots where he returned to the boarding school world.
At Asheville School, John is the Director of Admission, helps coach both Track and Field and Cross Country, works as a dorm parent, and is an advisor.
John loves trail running, mountain biking, telemark skiing, spending time with his wife, Katie, and their two kids, Connor (8), and Abby (5), and the family dog, Talbot, a Bernese mountain dog.
