Drama Students Earn Recognition at NC Theatre Festival

Our talented drama students took their performance of She Kills Monsters to the North Carolina Theatre Conference Regional High School Play Festival in Shelby, NC, after wowing our community with a special preview. She Kills Monsters is a hilarious and heartfelt adventure that explores themes of friendship, identity, and the power of imagination. Set in the fantastical world of Dungeons & Dragons, the story follows Agnes, who uncovers her late sister’s role-playing game. As she embarks on a quest through this magical realm, Agnes discovers secrets about her sister and learns to embrace her true self. With a blend of humor, action, and poignant moments, the play is a celebration of bravery, bonds, and the joy of imagination.

The cast and crew adhered to several competition rules while preparing the performance version of the play, including performing without microphones, using minimal props, and following a strict 45-minute time limit for both the performance and stage clearing. Despite these strict parameters, they delivered an exceptional show and received outstanding feedback from the judges. Their performance earned several awards, including the Theatre Arts Award for Fantasy Design, Outstanding Achievement in Design & Production for Properties Design, Excellence in Acting for Nicole Marmann ’27 as Farrah the Faerie, and Excellence in Ensemble Acting for the entire cast. The group also received the Festive Spirit Award for their enthusiastic participation throughout the competition.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, creativity, and passion our drama students brought to this production. Their dedication to the craft not only impressed judges but also created a memorable experience for all who saw the show. Bravo to the cast and crew for bringing the magic of She Kills Monsters to life and representing Asheville School with such enthusiasm and talent!
