The John M. Crawford, Jr. Art Gallery presents “pa·ti·na; something grown beautiful with age or use.” The installation draws inspiration from antique clothing discovered in Asheville School’s Graham Theater and celebrates the beauty found within distressed and disintegrating pieces. Interdisciplinary artist, Kathy Leiner brings together the antiquities, items from her personal collection, and expertise from costumer Kayren McKnight to invite the community to contemplate the beauty and stories we might find within the aged and discarded. The exhibition hangs through January 18, 2025.
We also invite community members to join us for an evening of exploring, observing, and creating in the gallery on Thursday, January 9 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The pa.ti.na gallery happening is open to the public and offers the chance to meet the artists, enjoy intermittent movement performances, and create a collaborative story in response to the exhibit.
