Asheville School’s girls’ varsity basketball team had a unique opportunity Monday night to play the Australian version of themselves. The Asheville School Blues started off 2020 by playing an exhibition game at home against another Blues basketball team — the Frankston Blues from Australia.
Although the Asheville Blues fell short in the 58-41 loss, the coach said his team enjoyed hosting on Carter Court as part of the Australian club team’s 18-day stint across the U.S. with stops in Dallas and Los Angeles.
“It was fun to see so many Blues on the court together,” said girls varsity head coach Tyler Ortiz. “It was great to compete on the court and even better to spend time together before and after the game. I enjoyed seeing the two teams eating and talking in the dining hall following the game. It’s great that we can use basketball to connect people from all over the world, and I hope this experience will serve as a springboard for the second half of our season.”
