Spring 2024 Zoom Book Discussion Schedule

February/March 2024: Can You Reimagine a Classic Tale?: Reimagining Shelley’s Frankenstein

Join Jay and Clay in a discussion, in the throes of winter, of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the novel’s reimagining in Jeanette Winterson’s Frankissstein (longlisted for the Booker Prize) and in Louisa Hall’s recently published Reproduction. Classes meet weekly on Wednesday evenings (7:00 – 8:00 p.m.); they begin February 7 (with a discussion of the first half of Shelley’s novel through Chapter 15) and end no later than March 6. Email Jay ([email protected]) by Friday, February 2 if interested in this class.

April 2024: What about the Male Ego?: Reading Homer’s The Iliad (Emily Wilson translation)

As armed conflicts continue around the globe, join Jay and Clay in a discussion of Homer’s classic epic poem. What does this newly published translation teach us about war and male aggression? Classes meet weekly on Wednesday evenings (7:00 – 8:00 p.m.); they begin April 17 and end no later than May 1. Email Jay ([email protected]) by Friday, April 12 if interested in this class.

May 2024: What lessons from a master? Reading Henry James
