After a decisive CAA conference win on February 9, Blues Swimming traveled to the Greensboro Aquatic Center to compete in the 2018 NCISAA 3A State Championship Meet on February 19. There, swimmers earned several podium finishes and set three new Asheville School records.
"We had a strong performance at the meet," said Head Coach Frank Kriegler. Overall, Boys Varsity earned third place of 19 teams, and Girls Varsity earned eighth place of 19 teams.
Asheville School had 12 swimmers who scored points for the team across 19 events.
Senior Nathan Alleyne won second place in both the 50 Free and 100 Free. With a time of 48.15 seconds in the 100 Free, Alleyne set a new school record and finished only .28 seconds behind the leader's time of 47.87. In the 50 Free, Alleyne earned another personal and Asheville School best with a time of 21.83. He came in a mere .04 seconds behind the leader, who had a time of 21.79.
Junior Abby Kriegler won second place in the 500 Free with a time of 4:47.98. She placed third and set a new school record in the 200 Free with her time of 1:52.83.
Freshman Connor Smith also earned a podium finish, placing third in the 200 Free with a time of 1:49.27.
Frank Kriegler says he is proud of Asheville School Varsity Swimming. "Almost 90 percent of our times at the state meet were season best swims," he said.
