On Thursday, May 17, the Asheville School Fine Arts Department will host the annual spring concert and student art opening. These events honor the hard work that students have dedicated to their crafts throughout the year.
The Spring Concert will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the Graham Theater.
According to Director of Music Programming John Cawley, this year's concert theme is award-winning composers. Asheville School's chorus, handbell ensemble, instrumental ensemble, and several instrumentalists will perform works by Berlin, Gershwin, Carmichael, Sondheim, Menken, Hurwitz, and Pasek and Paul.
Crawley is excited to showcase his students' work, and he encourages families, friends and guests to attend.
Later that evening, Director of Visual Arts Casey Arbor will host the 2018 Student Art Opening in the John M. Crawford Art Gallery, which begins at 7:15 p.m.
This exhibition features students' standout visual work in a wide variety of mediums. "There are powerful pieces that focus on human rights, others that focus on the effects of social media or the 13th amendment, and still more that use art historical styles and movements as inspiration for new artwork," Arbor said. "The craftsmanship, content and collection of the work is both emotionally moving and impressively rendered."
All are welcome to attend the concert and art opening. If you have any questions, please contact Director of Fine Arts Kathy Leiner.
